Miss Marley joined our family on June 3rd, 2018. I did an awful job at posting about my pregnancy this time around; it was different one of sorts due to the required progesterone and steroids, but it worked! Marley came 2 days past due. My doctor gave me the choice of being induced a week prior but he ended up going out of town and wasn't able to do it, so I had to wait until my body was ready, or until he returned from out of town. I got my membranes stripped on a Thursday and for the next week walked 3 miles every single day. I thought for SURE I wouldn't make it, but nothing I did got this baby girl to come out. She was nice and comfortable just letting me know it wasn't time despite how uncomfortable I was.
A week and 3 days later (Sunday, June 3rd), I went into the hospital to be induced. It was a hectic morning not knowing when the hospital would call to let me know when I was okay to come in, but we finally got the go ahead and headed in around 9:30am. We incidentally were in the same room Sloane was born in, so that made it kind of cool having that connection with my sister (and the fact that she ended up having her son, Nolan 3 days after Marley). I was put on the lowest dose of Pitocin and my body immediately started contracting. They never had to increase my Pitocin because my body was starting to dialte increasingly well on my own and as I started contracting big time, I started getting a flood of memories of how awful my labor was with Noah. I immediately told them I wanted to start my epidural. Getting my epidural was pretty traumatizing. I'm not sure why it was such a different experience than with Noah, but I felt every single thing this time around. I got an electric shock through my body and through my right leg that immediately put me into tears. It was pretty bad, but in the end, it numbed me and did its job. My labors are always so short. I pushed about 5 times and Marley was here. Since we didn't know the gender, having Travis shout "IT'S A GIRL!" put me immediately into tears. Thankfully we had it filmed and I will forever have that video to hold onto - it was such an amazing moment.
Marley has been such a dream. She is only 4 weeks old and she is sleeping for 4 hour stretches at a time - something we didn't experience with Noah either. She sleeps most of the day and only cries when I take to long to give her my boob :). Since Noah was such a hard newborn and would cry incessantly, I physically couldn't enjoy the newborn stage because most of the time I was just focused on how my body felt like it was shutting down. I was miserable and even remember thinking I would never want to do this again.. haha! but since Marley has been so good, I soak up the time I have with her. It doesn't make waking up in the middle of the night easier, but I feel such a bond with her when I nurse and am so much happier as i'm rocking her to sleep since she actually is trying to go to sleep rather than sleeping out of exhaustion from screaming. My two kids are polar opposites in both the looks and personality department, but we are so in love with both of them. Marley is the perfect addition to our family and we are so thankful for her healthy, safe entrance into our world.
We love you, Marley Elizabeth.
